SUSPENDED police commissioner Douglas Nyakutsikwa, who was being accused of criminal abuse of office, has been removed from remand by a Harare regional magistrate.

Nyakutsikwa was represented by Tapson Dzvetero, Servious Kufandada and Allen Masiye when he appeared before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guuriro yesterday.

The police boss applied for the charges to be thrown away, accusing the State of creating ‘malicious charges’ against him designed to keep him away from his workplace.

Nyakutsikwa was being charged on allegations of corruptly receiving a residential stand alongside suspended Harare City Council housing director Addmore Nhekairo who has since been removed from remand pending a High Court determination.

In removing Nyakutsikwa from remand, Muchuchuti-Guwiriro said there was no point in continuing with the trial of a charge that was pending before the High Court.
