LOCAL arts organisation, Savanna Trust has partnered with Friedrich Ebert-Stiftung to produce a drama series aimed at raising awareness on climate change and its effects.
The drama series will be co-scripted by Leonard Matsa and Teddy Mangawa and directed by Savanna Trust director Daniel Maposa in a bid to raise awareness and offer advocacy on climate change.
Maposa yesterday told NewsDay Life & Style that they would record five episodes and evaluate before they churn out other series.
“There is a realisation that climate change issues are at the periphery of national discourse yet they are having serious effects on citizens’ health and livelihoods. The lack of understanding of climate change also leads people, corporates and government departments to carry out activities that endanger the atmosphere,” he said.
“Our target audience includes all Zimbabweans, government, corporations in the energy sector, mining, manufacturing and agriculture, among others to raise awareness on how people can mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.”
Apart from the drama series, Maposa said they would also do a documentary on climate change in Zimbabwe as well as community theatre performances in targeted areas.
“We will also, in partnership with other organisations like Reyna Trust, organise a pre-Cop26 (United Nations Change Conference) event so that we can articulate community issues on climate change to different stakeholders before they attend Cop26,” he said.

Maposa said the drama would feature veteran actors such as Mangawa, Rumbi Karize, Dalma Chiwereva and George Tanjani, among others.
