Outspoken government critic and musician Sizfire, born Njabulo Nyoni, says the release of his recent love song titled Thand’umuntu Wakho, does not mean that he has stopped censuring President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

The song Thand’umuntu Wakho was released a fortnight ago and is available on digital stores.

“The song is about love, people show love in a different way,” Sizfire told Standard Style.

“Some prefer to always remind their loved ones that they love them, by showering them with sweet words. In the song I talk of a guy who goes out of his way to shower and spoil his lover with gifts and presents in the name of showing how much they love and appreciate them, and I actually fit in that space.

“I love showering my person with gifts.”

Sizfire said the rare sound he used was inspired by Portuguese and French beats called Kizomba or Zoek.

He, however, had to twist it a bit to give it a local feel in order to accommodate his local fans.

Sizfire is known for tracks such as Cry My Beloved Zimbabwe and Mr President.

On criticising Mnangagwa’s administration, Sizfire said: “I’m a singer and a storyteller, anytime I can sing about anything, as of our government, as long as things are not going accordingly, they must be ready for criticism. we vote these people into power to lead us as citizens, we also have the power to vote them out too.”

“As for the love song, I had to reconnect with my fans, the past two singles that were politically charged had issues with airplay, hence they are selective of what they can play on the radio.”

Sizfire allegedly received threats from suspected security state agents after his songs that criticised the government.

“The system is failing us and has always been,” he said.

“I have said things against the government and received some threats. as of now, I’m sleeping with one eye open and my shoes on, anytime I might be running in front of an angry man.

“But we won’t be silenced.”

Sizfire says he will be dropping an album that will feature both local and foreign artistes.
