Nakamba finds new home

Warriors midfielder Marvelous Nakamba was expected to beat the transfer deadline last night to sign a loan deal with England’s Championship side Luton until the end of the season.

Nakamba has been looking for a new club after he was told by Aston Villa boss Unai Emery to leave.

He had been linked with a number of sides including another Championship side, West Brom, but Birmingham Mail reported yesterday morning that Nakamba was headed for Luton.

He still has 18 months left on his contract with Aston Villa and after his loan spell, he will be looking to make a permanent transfer elsewhere.

The 29-year-old has not featured in a single Premier League match this season and last appeared for the team on the last day of the 2021-22 campaign when Villa squandered a 2-0 lead leave to lose 3-2 to Manchester City which conformed the Cityzens as champions.

Nakamba joined Aston Villa in 2019 from Belgian giants Club Brugge and enjoyed game time under Dean Smith and Steve Gerrard.

He helped the team survive relegation in the 2019-20 season and was reported to have attracted the interest of Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle.

Nakamba would probably relish a chance to fight for a Premier League place with Luton, who have been doing well in the second tier.

They currently sit seventh on the table, one place below the play-off spot even though they have the same number of points as Norwich, who are above them.

The 29-year-old Warriors international, who has won 26 caps for Zimbabwe, started out with French side Nancy, then Vitesse Arnhem in July 2014 before his move to Club Brugge where he then caught the eyes of Smith at Villa.
