Renowned gospel musician Tatenda Mahachi is set to host a highly anticipated live recording and album launch on October 10 at the prestigious 7 Arts Theatre in Harare.

The worship-filled evening will be graced by special guest Winnie Mashaba, one of South Africa’s most celebrated gospel voices.

Big names on the local gospel scene such as King David (Baba Harare), Sebastian Magacha, Baba naMai Charamba, Kuda Mutsvene and Jonah Chivasa, among others would be part of the event.

The album is titled Renewed.

The event marks Mashaba’s second appearance in Zimbabwe at Mahachi’s invitation, following their memorable collaboration on the 2022 single titled A Friend.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mahachi expressed his passion for creating meaningful worship experiences beyond studio recordings.

“It is important for us as artists not only to release music, but also to create our own platforms where people can come together and experience God in an intimate way,” he said.

“Hosting my own shows gives me the opportunity to connect directly with worshippers and create an atmosphere where lives can be touched.”

On Mashaba’s return to Zimbabwe, Mahachi said:

“I am truly honoured to welcome Dr Mashaba back. Her ministry through music is powerful, and I know her presence will make this evening even more special. Audiences can look forward to a great night of prayer and worship through song.”

The upcoming album will feature some of Mahachi’s most cherished songs, including Muri Mwari and Ndine Simba — a collaboration with Purple Pride Family — as well as Namata, his widely acclaimed joint effort with Freeman HKD.

The single Muri Mwari, whose theme is derived from 1 John 5:4, which talks about God overcoming the world, was released in April.

“It’s a very emotional song for me as I reflect on my life, especially on things happening to me,” Mahachi said.

“However, I got an understanding that God’s will for my life is the best no matter what.

“The song goes deep to talk about allowing God's will in circumstances, which is an important aspect of faith to everyone.”

Mahachi’ discography includes four albums Muyedzo released in 2007, Kure (2010),  Agare (2013) and  Declarations (2015).

He had several singles and collaborations between 2015 and to date, including hit songs such as Ndisiye, which features the late music icon Oliver Mtukudzi.

Mahachi stated that collaborations with international artists, like his previous work with the late South African gospel star S’fiso Ncwane, help put Zimbabwean music on the global map

With more supporting acts set to be announced in the coming weeks, anticipation continues to build for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest gospel music events of the year.
