JOHANNESBURG-BASED musician Mlue Jay is itching to “conquer” the world as he plans to perform at various venues in Zimbabwe. The multi-award-winning rapper has slowly been making strides in the Rainbow nation, having been profiled by a couple of online magazines and newspapers and is steadily gaining a following on home soil.
Mlue Jay exclusively spoke to NewsDay Life & Style about his plans for 2024.“I actually plan to travel the world, you know and stage concerts on international platforms and renowned venues like the O2Arena in London and all those places in New York, Japan and so on. But first I need to start here, they say charity begins at home, so one has to try and put things together right in Africa. For a start I have already collaborated with SA artistes Emza and Niseni who are a big deal in Durban at the moment,” he said.
The Bulawayo-born artiste previously hosted a show which was headlined by big names like DJ Black Coffee, Jays Marabini, Kwesta, Sjava, Emtee, Touch Line and Big Zulu at an event dubbed A night in Newtown.
He recently released the track Grateful which has received airplay on Channel O and MTV which broadcast across the continent. It has also become a regular feature on the playlist of XFM in Uganda. He said he intended to take advantage of that.
“The foundation has been laid already, now I need to take advantage and ride on it. It’s a great coincidence that I came up with Grateful because of similar fortune. It’s about appreciating the people who have supported me from the word go. It was also a tribute to my win at the Bulawayo Arts Awards for Outstanding Hip Hop Musician and best diaspora musician at the Zim Hip Hop Awards,” he said.
