KAIZER Chiefs is unlikely to keep defender Gordon Gilbert but have intensified their efforts to sign Zimbabwean defender Thomas Sweswe, currently starring for Premier League side Dynamos.

Sweswe has previously played for former PSL champions Manning Rangers but has since gone back home where he had to pick up the pieces of his career and has been in outstanding form for Dembare since the start of the season.

The defender is the second Zimbabwe player that Amakhosi are interested, with 19-year old Knowledge Musona another player on their books after he was spotted at a regional tournament in Limpopo recently.

Such was the player’s impression on Football Manager Bobby Motaung that he traveled to Harare to tie up the deal and now Amakhosi are said to be closing in on Sweswe as well after discarding Ghanaian Jonathan Quartey.

Quartey has signed for French Le Championnat side Nice but with news that Gilbert is also on his way out, it appears as if Chiefs are following the basic principle in football that when you want to build a solid foundation, then shut the back door. —— Sunshine Press.
