In a charged interview with South Africa’s Soccer Laduma magazine, Gomes threw down the gauntlet on Chiefs, insisting that the 23-year-old Zimbabwe international was a free agent.
Gomes, who enjoyed a stint at Chelsea and is now a player agent with extensive contacts in Europe, said Bhasera would be vindicated when world-governing body Fifa deliver a ruling on the matter.
“I’m representing Bhasera in this deal and the claim by Chiefs that the player is still under contract with them is utter rubbish!” said Gomes.
“Fifa will make an announcement soon and I’m sure it will be in favour of Portsmouth and Bhasera. I’II stay silent until then.”
When asked to justify his buoyancy over Fifa’s pending judgement, Gomes retorted: “First of all, if Bhasera is still under contract with Chiefs, why are they not paying his salary? He has not received a salary for months! Secondly, if they are not paying him for a reason, like he has failed to report for training or he has been suspended, then they have to state the reason and say his contract is null and void, or either way you look at it. Chiefs are at fault!”
Chiefs officials still maintain that Portsmouth “did not come to the party” in the deal.
