INDUSTRIAL Development Corporation (IDC) of SA Limited CEO Geoffrey Mvuleni Qhena is this year’s guest speaker at the Zimbabwe Independent Banks and Banking magazine breakfast launch to be held in Harare next Thursday.

The IDC is the leading development finance institution in South Africa. Qhena matriculated from Daliwonga High School in Soweto. A qualified chartered accountant, he completed a Bachelor of Accounting Science (B Compt) from the University of South Africa. He also holds a Certificate in Advanced Tax from the University of South Africa and has completed the Senior Executive Programme offered by the University of the Witwatersrand’s Business School.In 1992 Qhena was appointed lecturer in Accounting and Auditing at the Vista University in Soweto (which has since been merged with the University of Johannesburg). He initially joined the IDC in 1994 but left the following year to join the Transnet Group. At the time of his departure from Transnet in 1998 he was the group’s senior manager in charge of restructuring. Qhena rejoined the IDC in 1999 and, soon thereafter, was appointed as the executive in charge of Professional Services. In September 2003 Qhena was appointed as the IDC’s Chief financial officer and, in March 2005, he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer.  Qhena chairs the Board of Foskor, one of the world’s largest producers of phosphate and phosphoric acid. He also sits on the Board of Acerinox SA, a leading worldwide player in stainless steel manufacturing.  — Staff Writer.
