FOLLOWING the Caribbean debacle, Zimbabwe Cricket will from next week embark on an ambitious countrywide search for raw fast bowlers who can “bowl at 140km/hr or above”.

The audition-like search, between March 23 and April 10, aims to unearth quick bowlers who would otherwise not have the chance to showcase their ability.

Young, budding speed merchants will come from rural areas areas and small towns to centres in Harare, Bulawayo, Kwekwe, Mutare and Masvingo.

“We are looking for raw talent that can be moulded to become part of Zimbabwe’s fast bowling attack,” said ZC spokesperson Shingai Rhuhwaya. “Those who make the final cut will over the next year undergo all expenses paid, tailor-made coaching clinics at the High Performance Centre under the supervision of international coaches. The national team selectors and campaign selectors will then decide which of the candidates will be awarded a franchise rookie contract and, maybe, one day go on to represent Zimbabwe.”
