BY NQOBANI NDLOVU BULAWAYO — Delta Beverages has installed new beverage manufacturing equipment worth US$14,6 million at its Belmont plant that will see the company’s beer production output jump to 100 000 hectolitres from the current 40 000 hectolitres per month.

The new bottling equipment was bought from Krones AG of Germany, George Mutendadzamera, the Delta corporate affairs general manager said last Friday.

He said Krones AG was “one of the best manufactures of such equipment in the world.”

“This is a very huge investment to the city for Bulawayo.

“We have replaced equipment which was more than 30 years old,” Mutendadzamera told journalists during a tour of the plant.

Mutendadzamera said the new bottling equipment was equipped with hightech machinery which produces 42 000 beer bottles of 340ml per hour. The machine also produces 27 500 and 42 000 bottles of 375 ml and 750 ml per hour respectively.

“We are investing in new equipment to replace the old machinery,” he added, noting that the new machinery would be commissioned on Friday by Vice-President, John Nkomo.

The machinery is made up of a pallet handling system, de-palletiser, bottle unpacker, bottle wa-sher, empty bottle inspector, bottle filler and crowner, pasteuriser, labelling machines, date coder and bottle packer.
