Mzansi gospel choir coming for performance

by SIMBARASHE MANHANGO South Africa’s award-winning and most successful gospel ensemble, Joyous Celebration is scheduled to perform in Zimbabwe for the first time next month.

Joyous Celebration is coming in the country courtesy of TN Bank and the choir will be out to give its local fans a debut experience of its live performances. The group commands a huge following in gospel circles and most of its lead singers have made it big on the international scene.

A TN Bank official confirmed that the group would perform on May 7.

“They are coming as a whole group and we are expecting a memorable show as the bank launches some of its new products and services,” said the official. Also coming for the same concert from Down South are celebrated gospel artists, Derick Nzimande and Sipho Makabane. Both have performed here before and should know what to prepare for their Zimbabwean fans.

Joyous Celebrations sing a wide variety of gospel tracks, from traditional to contemporary Christian music, with a dash of some celebratory praise and worship songs. The choir popularly known within gospel circles with their hit track  Lord I lift your Name, and comprising of vibrant stars such as Uche of the My God is Good fame, the group will be coming with more than 50 of their finest members.

Some of the best local gospel artists that will be performing as supporting acts at this show include the fashionable gospel outfit Mahendere Brothers, Pastor G Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife Olivia will also grace the show.

Gospel diva Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave who has released several chart-topping albums since breaking on the music scene in the latest 1990s will also be part of the line-up.

Joyous Celebration has given birth to some of South Africa’s biggest musicians today, such as the late Wendy Mseleku, Margaret Motsage, Swazi Dlamini, Vicky Vilakazi, Benjamin Dube, Judith Sephuma and Jabu Hlongwane, among others.

Led by musical director Mthunzi Namba and producer Lindelani Mkhize, they have maintained consistency and have released 12 albums in 12 years. This fully acclaimed group has won numerous awards from the prestigious KORA awards to the regional South African Music Awards.
