Three new albums, single launch

By SIMBARASHE MANHANGO Zimbabwean artists are constantly dishing out their creative works in various genres in music circles and coming up with different projects.

What is evident is the fact that sungura albums are continuously pouring on the local music market with several prolific sungura artist joining in the race and releasing new albums.

Sungura maestro Daiton Somanje and the entertaining music star Hosiah Chipanga, together with prominent gospel musician Diva Mafunga, popularly known in gospel circles, availed their albums in what was a triple album launch at the City Sports Bar.

Attended by some of the big names in sungura circles including Tongai “Dehwa” Moyo, Kireni Zulu, Cephas Mashakada and First Farai, the event was a memorable occasion.Minister of Media, Information and Publicity Webster Shamu, who is also the patron of musicians in Zimbabwe, was the guest of honour.

Shamu said this was the kind of support that artists in various music genres needed to keep the music industry alive.

“Artists need to work together so that our music industry grows in stature”.

Somanje’s album is titled Zvisinei Hazvo and is composed of six tracks that include potentially explosive Samudhudhu, Sheri and Motowabvira.

Chipanga launched Vaudze Hosiah which shows that the artist is still a force to reckon with in music circles. The hilarious six tracks are long yet encompassing serious messages and are a testimony to his experience and entertaining ability.

The first track on the album, Nyoka Muriva and other songs are already getting commendable airplay on the local stations. Some of the best tracks to look forward to on the album are Cellphone, Toll Gate and Zvemudzimu Hazviraswi. Mafunga’s album is evidence of his unique and new style, a fusion of reggae and gospel.Good tracks on the album include Ndine Hasha, Jesus on the Throne, Mwana Wemhepo and Your Grace.

All the artists are under Last Power Music stable that organised the exciting triple launch. Laston Murerwa, the director of the stable said the launch was just one of the many things that they are planning for their musicians. The fashionable dance outfit Magesh also thrilled the audiences with their dances.
