Urban Warriors winger Tafadzwa Rusike talks tough

BY BRIAN NKIWANE ZIMBABWE international striker Tafadzwa “Fire” Rusike says he is still an “Urban Warrior” and has only been sidelined by a nagging ankle injury at the South African premiership club Ajax Cape Town.

Rusike has not seen action for the past five weeks due the injury that he sustained when Ajax played Bidvest Wits on March 2.

The little wide winger had a fairy success story after being plucked from Alaska Mine by Moses Chunga to feature for CAPS United in the 2007 and 2008 season.

He dazzled the premiership before he was signed by Ajax Cape Town — a team known for its liking of youth talent.

However, Rusike appears to have fizzled out barely a season in the South African premiership.

Rusike told Standardsport from his Ikamva base that he was not finding it tough to play in the South African premiership.

“Since joining the club I have always played well whenever given the chance to play. I have scored on a few occasions for the Urban Warriors but I hope to keep the form that saw me coming down South.

“I have been missing in action for the past few weeks due to an ankle injury that I picked up on March 2 when we lost to Bidvest Wits in an away match. I have been on the sidelines since then but I have since started training. I started training last Monday and I am looking forward to picking from where I left in the first team,” Rusike said.

In this match, Rusike was substituted on the stroke of the second half due to the injury for Thembinkosi “Terror” Fanteni while his countryman Willard Katsande started and had to be benched for George Maluleki in the 71st minute. Another Zimbabwean Khama Billiart who has currently hit top form played the entire match.

Rusike went on to salute Katsande and Billiart whom he said were making a mark in the premiership.

“We are three Zimbabweans at the Urban Warriors. I am happy all of us are having a fair share of playing time with recent acquisition Katsande making a mark in the league. I cannot talk of Billiart because he has become the talisman of the club. We all look forward to him as he has hit top form these days,” added Rusike.

Rusike made his professional debut in the premiership for Ajax Cape Town on August 27 2010 in a 2-0 win against Bloemfontein Celtic at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town.

He has featured 14 times for the Urban Warriors since his acquisition by Ajax Cape Town in the summer of 2010 on a three-year deal from CAPS United. He was joined at Ajax by CAPS clubmate Billiart, who had also transferred to the Cape Town club in the off-season and Katsande from Gunners.Rusike was also on Moroka Swallows wanted list before joining Cape Town.
