The hosts could have won by a bigger margin had they been accurate upfront but they gave a foretaste of what to expect in the coming games with a commanding display.
Zimbabwe started brightly with Neshamba and Mairosi combining well but Neshamba shot wide after two minutes. After five minutes they duly got ahead when Mairosi’s pin point cross found an onrushing Neshamba who headed home to sent the home fans into a delirium.
After 20 minutes Nokuthula Ndlovu’s curling effort from the left flank grazed the post but three minutes later it was Mairosi’s turn to get to the scoresheet with a seemingly harmless cross which eluded the Lesotho keeper and sailed into the nets. Lesotho never came into the game and their only realistic chance came in the 26th minute when Nteboleng Sekoto took advantage of some sloppy defending but shot straight at Onai Chingao
In the second period it was all Zimbabwe show as they aimed to demolish the hopeless visitors. Erina Jeke could have made it three on 49 minutes but she blazed her effort wide with the goal yawning at her. It was in the 84 th minute when the Mighty Warriors made sure they collect three points when substitute Machingura ,who mesmerised her opponents after her introduction ,received Ndlovu’s cross and simply lobbed home from close range.
With the fans urging the team on, Basopo capitalized on a goal mouth melee deep into stoppage time to blast home and give the appreciative crowd something to cheer about.
Zimbabwe now sit on top with three points followed by Malawi and Mozambique, which drew one all at Gwanzura and Lesotho anchor the group.
