Mwaruwari quits Blackburn Rovers over salary

BENJANI Mwaruwari has left Blackburn Rovers after failing to agree new terms with the club.

The former Zimbabwe Warriors captain had expected to sign a one-year with Rovers but has quit after being unhappy with the terms he was offered.

He does not yet have another club lined up, although several Championships outfits are understood to be interested. He told New Zimbabwe.com: “When I arrived at Blackburn last year I had an option for an extension. So when the club said they were offering me a new one-year deal, my expectations were that it would be on the same terms.

“After speaking to the club this week, it became clear an agreement would be difficult and now I have to consider my options and listen to other offers.“I want to thank the fans and everyone connected with the club for their support and wish them every success in the new season.”

The former Portsmouth, Manchester City and Sunderland striker confirmed he is prepared to play in the Championship if the right club comes along. — Lancashire Telegraph
