Zimbabwean international Edward Sadomba’s penalty gave Al Hilal a 1-0 home victory over a well-organised Moroccan side Raja Casablanca on Friday in the Orange CAF Champions’ League group phase.

The game, played in the city of Omdurman, saw a crowd of more than 25 000 spectators throwing their support behind the home team as they took on the Moroccans. Al Hilal fielded three new players in their starting lineup, including defender Saif Masawi, the right winger Tag Eldin Ibrahim and left back Amir Al Rabie. Raja Casablanca missed Rashid Soulaimani, who is serving a ban by CAF.

Al Hilal went on a raid from first whistle with Sadomba and Bakri Abelgadir , who replaced the injured Mudathir Careca, while the visitors’ formation had them rely on counter-attack leaving Hassan Tir lonely in the attack line.

Raja won the first corner in the game in the fifth minute while on the other end the home side’s attacks found a solid defence mounted by Raja, led by Ismail Benhalem and Mohamed Aoulihaj. — Cafonline
