Grooming With Heather: Make a fashion statement with Beats by Dr Dre

When it comes to fashion, what men lack in accessories they make up for in gadgets. When it comes to gadgets women tend to go for what gets the job done and do not take too much into consideration, for instance, a camera. When shopping for one, women would look for one that can fit in the handbag, looks good, takes pictures of a good enough resolution. Unless of course one is a professional photographer, nothing else matters.

The same applies to headphones. Women just want to listen to their music more clearly and in better detail than using the radio.  This is why you would not find too many women raving about or even showing a keen interest in the Beats by Dr Dre headphones.

“The thrill of hearing tiny details you’ve never heard before.  In songs you thought you knew inside out.  With the sleek and rugged Beats by Dr Dre headphones (over-ear or in-ear) engineered by Monster, thrills rule.” This is the line that sells these headphones, on the Beats by Dr Dre website. Walter, who owns one the Apple Store dealerships in Harare concurs. He stocks these headphones in his store and says though they are pricey they are worth every penny.

A South African magazine showcased these headphones in one of their Hotstuff pages.

During my research I ran into Lawrence who was using a pair of the headphones so I asked him to let me know what his experience with them was like. When he bought them, he was not expecting much because his friend had a pair of Bose headphones, which were the leading brand on the market at that time, but he was impressed by neither the sound quality nor the product design. He was attracted to the headphones because they were engineered by Monster. As with many people, he too was put off by the original price.

They retail for between US$200 and US$400 but locally one can find them for about double those prices. The black, silver and red gives the headphones an attractive appearance and their status makes them highly sought after. If you love your music these headphones are just for you because you are able to hear your music in great detail, for pure music and sound quality.

They are not as comfortable as the Bose headphones though and they leak noise significantly, but this is a small price to pay in comparison to the amazing sound quality. They also have great bass which is necessary to bring the music to life. You have to look at the bit-rate of the songs. If they are 128kbps the sound will be poor regardless of what headphones you use, be they Panasonic, Pioneer or Bose.

Instead, be sure you have songs that have 256kbps or 320kbps, which will allow you to enjoy your music and yield brilliant sound quality.

These headphones are indeed worth all the hype. Men, you may not have bangles, handbags, chunky chains or earrings but you do have a world of gadgets worth acquiring.
