Manunure High School gem unearthed

BY BRIAN NKIWANE IT’S not always that admirers get to meet face-to-face with their role models.

That was the case with young Kelvin Sibanda who is an admirer of Peter Ndlovu when he finally met him last week in Marondera where he was presented with his Coca Cola Under 17 Golden Boot Award.

Just a week before celebrating his 15th birthday, Sibanda had all the reasons to smile as he received a special award from the legendary former Warriors captain who also played in the tournament in his formative years.

Sibanda emerged the top goal scorer in the just ended Copa Coca Cola Under 17 football tournament that was held in Marondera. The tiny gunslinger who played for Manunure High School banged in six goals to earn the award.

“It’s not that easy to meet one person that you admire in life but this time around my dream came true when I had a chance to shake hands with Ndlovu whom I had always longed to meet,” said the soft-spoken striker at his base in Kwekwe.

Sibanda scored a hat-trick when Manunure beat Mwenezi, a penalty when Manunure played a goalless draw against Dewure and two goals in the finals when they beat Mwenezi 3-1.

For his sterling performance, Sibanda got US$100 together with the Goalkeeper of the tournament (Stanley Chakwana) and the Coach of the tournament (Joel Socres Sirevo) also coming from Manunure.
