DeMbare bosses set target for Pasuwa

Sport
BY BRIAN NKIWANETHE Dynamos executive has resolved to give caretaker coach, Callisto Pasuwa an ambitious target to win the five remaining home matches and get the DeMbare job.

The DeMbare top brass that included chairman Keni Mubaiwa, vice-chairman John Kanokanga, secretary Nyika Chifamba, treasurer Webster Chikengezha and committee member Simon Sachiti met on Thursday and changed their earlier resolution to hire a foreign coach after Pasuwa chalked two victories, against Shooting Stars and Shabanie Mine, since taking over from Lloyd Mutasa. The executive axed Mutasa, as they were not happy with his performance after posting eight wins, six draws and five defeats in 19 matches.

Pasuwa was then addressed at a meeting that was held at their training ground on Friday where the executive also met players. However, there is a catch. Pasuwa has to win five home matches to secure the job, according to the targets set by the executive. Pasuwa’s mission starts on September 11. Pasuwa has to beat Zimbabwe Saints, who of late have been struggling with their game, sinking deeper into the relegation zone.

DeMbare will then take on Monomotapa in a Harare derby the following week before welcoming their bitter rivals, Bulawayo giants Highlanders on September 25. Bosso have a good record whenever playing Dynamos away in Harare.

The Glamour Boys will then face the champions, the Mighty Bulls before finishing the list of their home fixtures against struggling Kiglon, who have given them a torrid time each time they met.

DeMbare has failed to beat Kiglon in many occasions, with this year’s first league meeting being the latest. The Glamour Boys lost the match 1-0 at Rufaro.

DeMbare boss  Keni Mubaiwa  confirms move

DeMbare chairman Keni Mubaiwa told Standardsport that the executive had been impressed by Pasuwa’s performance but had decided to give a five-match winning target for him to get the job.

“Pasuwa’s performance has actually made us reverse our decision to go foreign. We had agreed as an executive that we needed to replace Pasuwa with a foreign coach as we have been recycling local coaches for a long time.

“We have since agreed that we give him a yardstick whereby he is supposed to win all the remaining home matches for him to get the job.“He has so far won twice, against Shooting Stars and Shabanie Mine, yes, but we are saying he has to win all the remaining home matches for him to get the job as substantive DeMbare head coach,” Mubaiwa said.

“We know it will be like asking for too much from him if we say he has to win all the remaining matches, it will be too much, we just want him to win the remaining home matches and we do not care much about the away matches, but what we know is he is going to put maximum effort in all the matches as they come.

“If he manages to collect all these points for us, then what will be the reason for not giving him the job? It will be unfair not to give him the job if he manages to win the games,” Mubaiwa added.

This means that from the five home matches left, Pasuwa has to collect the 15 points at stake. He has the leeway to lose the four remaining away matches and get to keep the job.

DeMbare take on Gunners at Lafarge today in an away match that does not count in Pasuwa’s bid to get the job but will have to convince that he can win at home and away.
