Warriors crash out

Sport
BY our StaffTHE Zimbabwe Warriors’ dream of a third appearance at the 2012 Nations Cup evaporated after going down 2-1 to Cape Verde at the Estadio de Varzea in Praia yesterday.

Group A log leaders Mali booked their ticket to the continent’s biggest showpiece after beating Liberia 2-1 in Monrovia to take their points tally to 12 from six matches. Zimbabwe finished their Nations Cup campaign in third position with eight points in the four-team group. Cape Verde moved to second place with 10 points from six matches after beating Zimbabwe.

Cuthbert Malajila, who came into this campaign as last-minute replacement for the injured Edward Sadomba, scored the Warriors’ goal.  The Warriors’ qualification campaign was almost promising for the Warriors but collapsed in Praia particularly in the first half after conceding two quick goals.

The Warriors are said to have upped the game in the second half and peppered the Blue Sharks’ goal area with shots but they failed to get the equaliser.
