Lesley WurayayiZIMBABWE Teachers Colleges Sports Association (Zitcosa) national executive has confirmed that preparations for this year’s national games are at an advanced stage.

Speaking at the committee meeting held at Belvedere Teachers College yesterday, Zitcosa national president Edward Chekure said the venues and other logistics have all been finalised and they were polishing up other areas awaiting for the games to kick off on March 29 until April 1.

“This year we are going to stage a very different event which will reflect a stronger administration on our side since officials running the upcoming games have undergone an administration course and they will be exhibiting their skills in that area,” said Chekure.

The games are aimed at improving the network base for college students participating at the games.

Treasurer Edward Moyo said sponsors and the national association have come on board to support the games.

“We have incorporated the support of sponsors and national sporting associations like Zimbabwe Football Association, Zimbabwe Netball Association among others to try and improve our network base for the students,” he said.

There are a lot of talented students in colleges who are not exposed to the sporting fraternity.”

Chekure noted that one of their students Abraham Mubaiwa plays for Chicken Inn FC, reiterating that the games also gave clubs an opportunity to scout for talented players.

A total of 13 colleges from around the country will participate in this year’s edition of the national games, an event that will cover all sporting disciplines. This year’s games will be guided by the theme “Education and Sports in a Healthy Environment.”
