SAZ announces National Annual Quality Awards

Business
The Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) has announced the opening of entries to the much awaited National Annual Quality Awards 2012. This is the second year of implementation after the inaugural national awards which were held last year. The competition comes at a critical point in history when the country is working towards social transformation and building a positive image. Entries opened on April 1 2012 and will close on October 1 2012.

The National Annual Quality awards aims to achieve competiveness for public and private sectors, large, small and medium-scale enterprises through sustained application of productivity and quality principles and adopting of business excellence practices in Zimbabwe.

The competition can be used as a tool to provide structured and robust criteria upon which organisations can carefully assess their quality achievements and successes as well as identify areas that need improvement.

It is organised by the National SQAM Committee which is represented by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SADCA/SADCSTAN), SIRDC (SADCMET), Ministry of Industry and Commerce (Trade Measures/ SADCMEL) Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (SADCTRLC/SQAMEG) and NLAZ (SADCTBTSC) which form an integral part of the national quality infrastructure among others.

The winners of the national competition will automatically qualify for the Sadc Annual Quality Awards and winners will be announced in March 2013. The SAZ is encouraged that Zimbabwe managed to clinch an award at the just ended regional Sadc Quality awards 2011 represented by BAK Logistics for Category 3 – Service of the Year SME sector. In fact, BAK Logistics was the only non-South African country to win an award. BAKLogistics, being an SAZ certified company, has demonstrated that their strategies and processes are based on trusted and recognised best practices.

Indeed, BAK logistics has managed to stretch itself in terms of sustainable quality of service delivery thus putting Zimbabwe on the regional map. It is the desire of SAZ to see products and services originating from Zimbabwe fiercely penetrating the global market without any hindrances and obstacles pertaining to low quality.“It is fitting at this point to highlight that although other national company awards are in existence, none have the sole objective of promoting awareness of quality, productivity and competitiveness as do the National Quality Awards,” a SAZ official said.

“The SAZ encourages all companies to take part in this year’s competition in order to further the understanding among companies of the requirements of the attainment of business excellence and successful deployment of quality management,”
