A Brics undersea broadband cable will be launched by 2014 to connect Brics countries with the African continent.
This will be one of the five cables that have been planned for the continent by 2014 to improve trade connections to new markets, reduce the cost of communication, improve the quality of internet services and create thousands of jobs across the continent. A critical aspect of these initiatives is that they are all largely private public partnership projects, thus ensuring the wider participation of African communities.
