Don’t be a victim of sick cyber solutions

Standard People
by Grace Mutandwa Every time I check my emails, I also go through stuff netted by my spam filter just for fun.

The contents of my spam filter tells me a lot about the world we live in or at least the world inhabited by some people. It also tells me that the world is full of very gullible and malleable people.

In my spam filter are offers for free pizza and that I can eat lobster at my nearest eatery which just happens to be somewhere in America! All I know is that the people running these websites are opportunists who mass email in the hope that they will eventually hook someone and someone close enough to take them up on their offer.

I have also been offered tips on how to cheat on my insurance, how to get credit and how to pay off money that I do not even owe. I have also had threats over money that I am supposed to owe and have been informed about how my business line is doing so well and has so far attracted more than 300 people!

Insanely I have also been offered the opportunity to view photographs of single people in my area – Los Angeles? Last time I checked I had a Harare address.

The offers are as many as they are weird. I have had a chance to meet senior people, marry a sugar daddy, meet the insane millionaire, or make use of the booty call alert or join the lonely cheating housewives club. I have also been offered pointers on how to get the girl.

Judging from the contents of my spam filter, I have the qualities of being a cheating housewife, a criminal, a sexually insatiable young woman, a lesbian and a desperate spinster willing to marry any rich sugar daddy.

I might not take these offers seriously but the fact that everyday I am offered new ways of leading a promiscuous, lying and cheating life means there must be others out there who find these offers irresistible.

Cyber space has become a dangerous environment but one can choose to ignore calls to partake in some of this stuff. What worries me more is the fact that in real life we continue to have women who fall for sick solutions to their problems.

I suppose the websites that offer booty calls, reprieve for lonely housewives and other weird stuff do know we have people around us who are desperate and mad enough to try anything. Did we miss something when we did biology?

Do we even know why we have private parts and why we need them or are they a mystery that we are too scared of exploring? What is wrong people?
