Sungura maestro Alick Macheso and flamboyant musician Energy Mutodi became instant enemies when Macheso accused Mutodi of plotting to destroy established bands in the country.Macheso blasted Mutodi for allegedly trying to lure his drummer Obert Gomba and castigated him for taking Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika and Spencer Khumulani from Peter Moyo. The sungura kingpin also said Mutodi was not talented and would be a failure in the industry even if he enrolled the best instrumentalists, dancers and vocalists. Mutodi hit back with a long article posted on his Facebook page and published in some local newspapers. Mutodi said he had all that it takes to challenge any musician in the country and said some people hated him because of his style and intelligence. The cold war tore a relationship that had been sealed when the duo did a duet that featured on Mutodi’s album. For months, it was apparent that there was bad blood between the musicians until the recent announcement that they would share the stage at Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza on August 25. Both sides confirmed that they have decided to bury their differences and move forward for the benefit of their fans. “Macheso is our brother and we have no problems with him. We will work with him anytime because divisions in the industry will not do us any good,” said Mutodi’s manager, Shiga Shiga. Macheso said he is prepared to work with all artists for the better of the music fans in Zimbabwe. “We love our fans and I always like to have collaborations with all artists for the better of our fans,” said Macheso. Show promoter Patson Chimbodza said he has decided to bring the two on one stage to for their fans. “This is music and people must enjoy it. There is no need for unnecessary squabbles that they have to witness squabbles among artists this show will prove that the artists are united,” said Chimbodza. The show will also feature Leonard Zhakata and Jah Prayzah. Zhakata and Macheso last shared the stage about a decade ago. Meanwhile, Mutodi will take the opportunity to sample his upcoming album that is expected on the market later this month. He will also be celebrating the release of his exciting video album for Sekawo Mbichana that was recently released in South Africa and ready to go on local market. The videos were expertly done and are set to take the showbiz scene by storm.
