MUTARE — A 27-year-old man from Sakubva high-density suburb will perform 105 hours of community service after he was convicted of bashing his wife who had complained about his bed-wetting.

In a court case that left the packed gallery in stitches, Mutare magistrate Charles Murove sentenced Ian Chimika to eight months in prison after he pleaded guilty to assault.

Murove suspended four months on condition that Chimika would not commit a similar offence in the next two years.

A further four months were suspended on condition that he performed 105 hours of community service.

State prosecutor, Nelson Makunyire, told the court that on August 13 this year, Chimika had a misunderstanding with his wife, Loice Muradzikwa, who complained about his bed-wetting.

This did not go down well with Chimika who assaulted his wife.
