NKAYI — A 38-year-old woman from Silobela landed herself in trouble after she stole groceries and clothes from her employer in Nkayi and tried to escape.

REPORT BY SILAS NKALA The goods were valued US$102,50.

Makhile Moyo pleaded guilty to theft charges when she appeared before Nkayi magistrate Ndumo Masuku last week.

She was sentenced  to six months in jail, which were wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that between July 30 and August 20 this year, the complainant, Alice Dlamini, left her groceries in the custody of Moyo, who was employed to take care of her elderly parents while she was away.

Instead, Moyo took advantage of Dla-mini’s absence to steal all the groceries as well as clothes and tried to escape to Silobela.

But Dlamini met her at the bus station while she was waiting for transport.

On searching her, Dlamini discovered that she was carrying things she had stolen from her home.

A report was made to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
