Harare Sports Club and Matabeleland Warriors will meet in the Lion Lager National Rugby League final after winning their semi-final matches yesterday.

The Red Lions thumped their bitter rivals Old Hararians 25-6 courtesy of four tries from Danny Hondo, Tangai Nemadire, Steven Hunduza and flyhalf Lenience Tambwera.

Tambwera could have made the margin wider but was disappointing from the kicking tee after just managing to convert a single penalty and one conversion.

Old Hararians had earlier threatened to upset their rivals with some solid forward play in the first 10 minutes which resulted in two penalties which were converted by Tichafara Makwanya, but later ran out of steam.

The Red Lions’ quick backline was always going to be a threat prior to the match and proved to be the masterstroke as the tiring Old Hararians struggled to cope with the breakneck tempo.

Meanwhile, at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo, Matabeleland Warriors booked their place in the final after beating defending champions 18-17 to qualify for the final.

Old Georgians, who have won the last two editions of the league, will miss out on the final which will take place at Harare Sports Club at a date yet to be announced.
