He was admitted there following his return from South Africa, where he was receiving treatment.

Sources last week revealed that Nkomo had been admitted at UBH, although they could not say what state he was in.

Officials at the hospital confirmed that Nkomo had been discharged, although they would not give further information.

The Vice-President was last week due to be the guest of honour at a police pass out parade in Harare, but was in a no show, prompting speculation on his whereabouts and health.

Three weeks ago, President Robert Mugabe told a Zanu PF meeting that Nkomo was in neighbouring South Africa, where he was seeking medical treatment and that the party wished him well.

Nkomo’s son, Jabulani, however, declined to comment, saying he had been misquoted several times and did not want to run that risk again. “I do not comment on my father, I was misquoted and I do not want that happening again,” he said politely.

The Vice-President has been in and out of the country in the past two years as he seeks medical treatment.

He has been conspicuous by his absence at several state functions and when he managed to attend, he has looked frail and gaunt.
