PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai hailed the huge turnout at the annual charity golf day aimed at raising funds for the disadvantaged held at Borrowdale Brook Country and Golf Club in Harare yesterday.

The annual tournament, which is now in its third year, managed to draw over 180 players, divided into pairs, with each team paying US$250.
The proceeds would be donated to charity.
Ministers Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma, businessman Zed Rusike, and several diplomats graced the function.
Tsvangirai, who partnered Rusike, described the day as great and hoped the contribution would go a long way in helping the needy.
“This is a great day for us and the participation has been great. It is a small contribution. We hope to raise revenue for charity. Why not use pleasure to donate. I hope this year we will cut all the costs in order to donate most of the proceeds to charity. I also had a good game and I am improving with each day,” said Tsvangirai. The tournament’s organiser, Lazarus Muriritirwa said the golf day had been oversubscribed.
“The tournament draws all golf players from Zimbabwe and they pay US$250 to participate.

“It is now in its third year and this year we have 180 players, which bring the number of teams to 90.
“We invited all the 46 embassies and other prominent captains of the industry. We have representatives from the Danish, Canada and Chinese embassies,” said Muriritirwa.
The player to hit a hole-in-one was expected to walk away with a Toyota Hilux double cab truck.
Charity organisations expected to benefit include Mathew Rusike Children’s Home, Mashambanzou Care Trust, Harare Children’s Home and Emthunzini WeThemba.
