Christopher Nyanhongo of Chidawanyika village under Chief Mutasa left his home at 6am to drink beer at Govingo business centre.

Police said Nyanhongo spent part of his day taking the illicit spirit — which is imported from Mozambique — without eating any food before collapsing on the verandah of a shop at the business centre.

Nyanhongo’s son Bernard (49) made a follow up after his father took a long time without reporting back home.

When Bernard arrived at the business centre at around 4pm, he found his father lying unconscious and took him home.

At around 10pm, Nyanhongo’s condition deteriorated and he was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri discouraged members of the public from drinking such illegal beers, saying it is an offence to sell such beers in the country.

The spirit is reported to have more than the stipulated 40% alcohol content.

Recently, a teacher at Chikora Primary School was found dead in the classroom after he excessively consumed Zed.

He was found bleeding from the nose and mouth by a security guard.
