The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has read the last ultimatum to the league’s chief executive Kenny Ndebele to take his post on a full-time basis or risk losing the job. By Brian Nkiwane and Michael Madyira
Ndebele, whose contract expires on December 31, has been manning the league’s top administrative job on a part-time basis despite ironically being the substantive chief executive officer (CEO).
The PSL board is expected to meet on Thursday and ask the Bulawayo-based administrator to assume a full-time role at the league’s offices in Harare where he usually operates three times a week.
However, PSL chairman Twine Phiri has thrown his weight behind Ndebele to retain his post.
“As the PSL chairman, I have been impressed by Ndebele in his role as our chief executive. Even clubs have attested to his high work ethic,” said Phiri.
The league boss said in the event Ndebele turned down the new offer, they would be forced to look for other interested candidates. “Now that the league has grown big, we are forced to employ the CEO on a full-time, basis. If Ndebele is not prepared to be full-time then we will advertise the post which becomes vacant at the end of this month.”
The league’s fina-nce and administration manager Cuthbert Mutandwa is believed to be interested in succeeding Ndebele. Former ZBC employee Robson Mhandu and ex-Zifa CEO Oliver Kanhukamwe are also said to be ready to renew their interests in the job.
