According to National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) president Tendai Tagara, Nyasango made the cut for the London Marathon after a sterling performance at the Olympic Games last year. “Participation at such big races is through invitation. But because of his performance at the last edition of the Olympic Games, Nyasango automatically qualifies to participate in this race,” Tagara said.

Nyasango has begun training after recovering from post-marathon feet swelling from last December’s Japan Fukuoka International Marathon.

The Olympic marathoner clocked 2:04:17 hours finishing the race on ninth spot.

This was after another commendable outing at the London Olympic Games where he finished on position seven.

Nyasango started training two weeks ago and will be ready for his first race of the year after two months.

The 30-year-old said he was waiting to be presented with his 2013 schedule by his Spanish manager Julia Garcia Fernandez “It is always a good thing that I no longer have problems with my legs. I have started doing some light training and very soon I will be back to full fitness. Right now I am just waiting to hear from my manager on the races I will enter this year,” said Nyasango.
