RELEGATED Castle lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) sides —Blue Rangers, Quelaton, Gunners, and Hardbody — exited the league empty-handed after the league withheld their prize money over unpaid affiliation fees as well as fines.

The four teams were each entitled to receive US$5 000 as part of the award money from the league’s sponsors, Delta, as well as US$5 900 league grants.
The league’s secretary general Kenny Ndebele confirmed that the four clubs did not receive their money as they were in arrears, with some owing the league from the 2011 season.
“I can confirm that most teams, among them all the relegated teams, did not get their prize money. We had to withhold it to settle the outstanding amounts they owe the league. The bottom four teams were supposed to get US$5 000 each plus US$5 900,” he said.
“However, we could not give them the prize money as they owe the league. Once they settle the credits, then we will give them what is due to them. Unfortunately in most cases, the money we withheld was less than what the clubs owed us.”
Ndebele said they revoked clause 7,2 of the PSL constitution which mandates the league to withhold the awards money if a club has not paid the affiliation fees. “The rules of the league are clear on this issue and the clubs are aware of this. Clause 7,2 of the PSL constitution says that PSL clubs must renew their membership fees before the first match of the season. The clause further states that failure to do so, the league will forfeit the grant entitled to the club.
Some of these clubs owed the league from the 2011 season,” he said.

Apart from the affiliation fees and fines which the clubs are supposed to pay, they also had to pay referees fees amounting to US$650 per match.
