Chicken Inn had earlier edged fancied Monomotapa 2-1 in another intriguing semi-final at the same venue.

United new signing goalkeeper Winstone Chiwetu converted the winning penalty after Kelvin Moyo had missed for the hosts.

Chiwetu, formerly with relegated Quelaton, converted the last spot kick with swagger and conviction to send his team into the final of the season opener.

“I was confident I would score,” said Chiwetu.

“It’s a great feeling. We played well in the second half and I think we deserved to go through although FC Platinum were in control, especially in the first half.”

Hardlife Zvirekwi, Moses Muchenje and Ronald Pfumbidzai scored the other four penalty kicks for CAPS United with Tendai Samanja, Tawanda Nyamandwe, Takudzwa Mahori and Blessing Zabula all missing the target.

Winston Mhango, Daniel Vheremu and Thabani Kamusoko all converted for FC Platinum. CONTINUED ON PAGE 39
