The teenager who appeared before Chi-pinge magistrate, Makamera Waini and has two previous counts of unlawful entry into premises, was however sentenced to three months in prison.

Prosecutor Witness Nyamundaya told the court on April 27, the suspect was drinking beer at Pyramid beerhall when the bartender Janet Komichi of Gaza went to the storeroom, leaving the bar unattended.

The teenager took advantage of Komichi’s absence and stole a cash box with US$150 and R470 before disappearing.

Asked why he committed the offence, he said: “The demonic spirit of stealing always haunts me. My father is reluctant to solve this matter. I am not a thief”.
