CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro had no kind words for the club’s leading goal scorer Dominic Chungwa, who missed glorious opportunities in the team’s draw against Monomotapa in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.

In a game in which Monomotapa midfield maestro Ronald Chitiyo showed the huge gulf between himself and his teammates, CAPS United chief marksman Chungwa fluffed numerous scoring chances.

The glorious chance fell on the striker in the 57th minute when he, unmarked in the box, shot straight at Monomotapa goalkeeper Tapiwa Zvaita, who parried the ball for a corner.

Zvaita had done well to punch back into play Moses Muchenje’s shot from outside the box, but the ball invitingly fell into the path of Chungwa, who lacked the killer instinct with only Zvaita to beat. Barely three minutes later, Chungwa, again unmarked in the box headed over the bar a Kelvin Bulaji cross from the right.

Monomotapa, however, had their chance just eight minutes after resumption. Kuda Musharu found himself in the box but chose to pass to a badly positioned Ishmael Lawe, allowing CAPS defender Ronald Pfumbidzai to recover.

United coach Mangwiro said: “We badly needed the three points, but you do not win games if you miss chances like what Chungwa did. However, it is good that we collected the point,” he said.

Monomotapa coach Biggie Zuze said he was happy that his side did not concede a goal.

“I think we are getting our defensive aspect of the game right. We now have to concentrate on our finishing,” he said.

In Chiredzi, Kenneth Nyangani reports that Triangle coach Gishon Ntini heaved a huge sigh of relief after his side defeated Buffaloes 2-0 at Gibbo yesterday.

However, the same cannot be said of his opposite number Saul Chaminuka who was given a three match ultimatum to collect six points or face the exit.

Defender William Mapfumo headed in Lameck Nhamo’s corner kick in the 38th with the latter sealing victory in extra time, after getting to the end of Pardon Chinungwa’s cross from the left flank.

Former CAPS United player Limited Chikafa however missed a penalty in the 13th minute. The penalty kick was awarded by referee Rugaru Kusosa after Buffaloes defender Kudzai Mwaramba had handled in the box a Chinungwa cross.

Our correspondent from Beitbridge reports that Webster Chingodza’s 36th minute striker was all Tripple B needed to beat Motor Action 1-0 at Dulibadzimu yesterday.

Former Dynamos player Timire Mamvura however, was guilty of missing a penalty in the 31st minute.
