The team takes part at the African Netball Championships slated for Malawi this month.

The championships will run from June 22-29 with more than 20 countries from the continent expected to participate.

This will be Zimbabwe’s third appearance at the event.

Currently, they are ranked 26 in the world.

The hosts Malawi are favourites to clinch the title, as they have a superior world ranking. Malawi lies on seventh position in the world rankings.

In an interview, the Zina president, Chipandu said they were eying a top three finish, adding that the final travelling team would be announced next week.

“We are going to participate at the African Netball championships this month. The provisional team that will travel to Malawi was named, but we will only announce the final 12-member team on Tuesday,’’ she said.

“One of the major issues we will be fighting for at the championships is to improve on our world ranking. We are lying on the 26th position but we are aiming to be in the top three or better because l believe that we have got talent in the country,’’ she said.

The veteran Netball administrator also added that they were struggling to secure sponsorships for the games.

“Sponsors have not been coming forward. The team will travel by road on June 20. As you all know, this is not a healthy situation for players, they need a deserved rest.

This might be a challenge, but we be hoping to carry the county’s flag high,’’ he said.
