In a rare gig bringing gospel and secular music giants on one stage, Charles Charamba and his wife Olivia are slated to perform with Oliver Mtukudzi at Harare Gardens on November 3.

The show is likely to be an exciting family outing, bridging the music taste bridge that usually separates fathers from their families.

Often, men go out partying in environments that are not conducive for family entertainment. Mtukudzi is one musician who rarely stages afternoon shows, hence mothers and their children have had limited chances of seeing him on stage.

Moreso, most family women and their children prefer gospel to secular music, while the opposite is true for most fathers.

Given the above scenarios, an afternoon affair featuring top gospel and secular musicians in a venue suitable for family entertainment makes the November 3 gig a unique package.

It would be the first time for the musicians to share the stage in such a set-up. The initial attempt to have them sharing the stage in a family show flopped last year when Mtukudzi decided to take a rest after a hectic programme.

The Charambas ended up performing alone at Richwood Sports Club in December last year, prompting organisers of the show to try the combination once again this year.

“It took us a year to have Mtukudzi and the Charambas on our schedule again because both camps have tight programmes,” said one of the organisers.

“This is a unique show and we are confident it would bring a unique tale to the local showbiz industry.”

Pastor Charamba said he has so much respect for Mtukudzi and is looking forward to worshipping with the superstar.

“I have always respected Tuku and it is good that we are performing together. He has done various gospel songs that we can identify with. He is a great musician locally and internationally. We hope fans will enjoy the show,” said Charamba.

An official from Tuku music said they are promising a good performance as usual.

“Tuku takes every show seriously and he will treat this gig with the same attitude. It is good that our fans will also have a chance to worship with the Charambas during the show. It will also be a chance for those that follow the Charambas’ shows to see us in action,” said the official.
