At a press conference at his Karigamombe Centre offices on Friday, Chivhayo announced that he had donated US$50 000 to Fund a Future Trust Fund, a charity initiative started by reigning Miss Carnival Queen Dananai Chipunza.

The trust fund takes care of 30 HIV-affected and infected orphans between six and 16 years of age in the capital city.

Speaking at the event, Chipunza expressed her gratitude towards Chivhayo’s gesture.

“When I started the charity initiative I approached different corporates for funds as the situation was bad for some of the children whose health was deteriorating, while others were being thrown out of school,” said Chipunza.

“But I am happy to say Chivhayo did not turn his back on us as he has donated US$50 000 to the cause.”

She said although the children were still in the care of relatives and guardians, plans by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority are underway to provide a house where the children will be staying with caregivers.

Speaking at the same occasion Chivayo said he was happy that the money would go a long way in paying for the kids’ school fees.

“Some of the fees are as low as US$80 a term for one child and US$50 000 should enable a good number to finish either their primary or secondary school,” said Chivayo urging other businesspeople to follow his cue.

The money which is said to be in the Trust Fund’s account already, is being managed by Mambo Sasa Legal Practitioners who were also responsible for the registration of the trust.

Mambo Sasa Legal Practitioners were represented at the event by Phillip Nyakuedzwa.
