Some of the workers, who have gone for three months without pay, accused the NAC management of not caring about their welfare. One of the workers, who did not want to be identified, said he suspected that management was not telling them the truth about their salaries.

“We don’t know who is telling the truth because at the bank we are told that NAC has not transferred our salaries, while NAC on the other hand tells us to go to our banks for salaries,” said the worker.

Another worker based in Masvingo, said the organisation was treating them harshly because they took the matter of their backdated salaries to the Labour Court.

The workers took NAC to court after it back-tracked on its promise to pay outstanding salaries, following its failure to pay full salaries for two years in 2009 and 2010.

NAC had agreed to pay half salaries to workers for the two years promising to clear the balance once the situation had improved.

NAC director, Madeline Dube said she was not at liberty to comment on the Labour Court case.

She however, blamed the current non-payment of salaries on the liquidity crunch affecting the whole country.

“I cannot comment on the issue of salary backdate as doing that will be viewed as trying to influence the outcome of the courts,” said Dube. “On the issue of salaries, I think the problem lies with relevant banks used by staff.”

NAC gets a huge chunk of its money from government through the Aids levy.
