The accident that occurred around the early hours of Saturday December 14 along Sam Nujoma Street left the Shaina singer’s right leg fractured.

The musician was driving his Toyota Mark II towards the central business district after dropping off a friend in Avondale when he was involved in an accident with another car.

He was to be struck by another vehicle while he was trying to help the driver of the other car resulting in him breaking his right leg. The Shaina hit-maker said he decided to rest so as to get enough time to recuperate.

The musician’s decision comes after he braved the launch of his single Zva Zvinhu on December 24 at the Germany Society where he was evidently in pain.

“I would like to express gratitude to my fans and relatives for their unwavering support at this time as I patiently wait to recover,” he said.

“I have just decided to take a short break since I am not able to stand and it will be hard for me to perform while seated.”

It is Kawara’s second car accident after he survived another crash in May 2010 on his way from a show in Chinhoyi.

Kawara has since shelved all his musical plans until he recovers fully. His break coincides with that of many other musicians who normally take the rest of January off the stage.

Apart from Oliver Mtukudzi who will be in the United States this month, other musicians that are on leave are Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah and Sulumani Chimbetu who will be on a two-week long hiatus, among others.
