The race will be in George, South Africa.

Mukutya, who won the 2012 edition, together with Elford Moyo, Samson Muroiwa, Wilson Nyakoko, Alex Mkandla, Dorcas Hwatira, Thandiwe Moyo, Margret Bangajena and Madeline Madzivire, will represent Zimbabwe at the annual race.

“The Zimbabwean community in South Africa was very much behind the Warriors at Chan in South Africa and we are all aware of how the boys performed. I am happy that we are going to the same nation soon after the historic feat by the boys and we have to emulate this. I hope people there will also support us,” he said.

Makutya, who finished fifth last year, however said his preparations had not been that impressive.

“I faced a lot of challenges, but I hope to overcome them at the marathon. I have been talking to my team-mates and they are happy with their preparations,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Hwatira who won last year’s race.

“We are ready for the race and I would like to thank all those who have supported us in cash and kind,” she said.
