Sipepa-Nkomo takes a swipe at MDC leader

MDC-T Renewal Team interim national chairman, Samuel Sipepa-Nkomo has said the MDC-T lost last years’ elections fairly because the party was not well- prepared.

BY MUSA DUBE

This is contrary to claims by former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai who is on record saying President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF hired an Israel firm, Nikuv, to rig the polls.

Sipepa-Nkomo said MDC-T lost the elections because the party was relaxed prior to the July 31 national elections.

“I believe that we lost the election and if we were ‘nikuved’ I would not have won,” said Sipepa-Nkomo. “I believe that we went to sleep and lost the election.”
Addressing a meeting organised by civic organisations in Bulawayo last week, Sipepa-Nkomo said MDC-T had no campaign resources such as transport and it was impossible for them to win under such circumstances.

Sipepa-Nkomo said the MDC-T Team met at Mandel Training Centre and not Harvest House to suspend Tsvangirai because they were afraid of being beaten up by hooligans.

“The question that is being asked is why we met at Mandel and not at Harvest house? Well, if we had decided to meet at Harvest House we were going to be beaten up,” said Sipepa-Nkomo.

He claimed that many people were going to join his renewal team because there was too much violence in the MDC-T where people with diverse opinions were being beaten up for expressing their views.

“When people deny that there is violence happening at Harvest House, I begin to doubt their credibility because I sit in the national council and I was there when people were beaten,” he said.

The former minister of Water said the MDC-T was on the verge of collapse.

However, MDC-T deputy organising secretary, Abedinico Bhebhe said the renewal team was doomed to fail.

“Let’s assume that you want to impeach Robert Mugabe and surely can you go to a hotel in Botswana and say we have impeached Mugabe,” said Bhebhe. “It shows that there are some people who do not take Zimbabweans seriously and think that Zimbabweans are lunatics who do not think.

He vehemently denied incidences of violence at Harvest House, the party’s headquarters.

Dear Simon Sipepa-Nkomo, since when do leopards change their spots? Hunger for power is in your blood. How can you deny something that is public knowledge? You are popular, sir. Take on Bob and Morgan and prove it. The day you become President I will renounce my Zim citizenship

Oh so you won, ok, that’s the last time you will ever represent us in parliament. These fools make me sick. I will definitely cease to be a Zimbabwean if this gang of receivers come anywhere near power in Zimbabwe. However, the people agenda for change will not be derailed

The renewal team have every democratic right to organize themselves as an alternative voice of the people, that is not in dispute. In fact, Zimbabwe’s political health needs forces that can neutralize the current polarization, it is even in MDC-T’s interest. However, if the alternative voice is bent on destroying people’s hopes without offering an alternative vision it becomes an eveil force. By this l mean that Sipepa and his group should be focusing on articulating their vision for Zimbabwe and leave the people to make a choice of who to back.So far the so called renewal team have surprizingly made their focus destroying MDC-T by demonizing the person of Tsvangirai and that is not working. They for some strange reason want to portray MDC-T as worse than Zanu PF but the people of Zimbabwe know better and do not need law degrees to make an opinion on that, neither do they need the hate narrative from the so called renewal group which does not in any way differ from what Zanu PF is offering or what they claim to be fleeing from MDC-T. In other words the so called renewal group has NOT offered an alternative in strict political sense, criticism is not policy. The longer they take to form their own party the more irrelevant they will get. So far very few Zimbabweans take them seriously even they grant them freedom to show dissent…the more they are seen to be destroying MDC-T without any policy and administrative alternative the more they are alienated from the people whose support they need. All that talk about democracy is cheap untill the folks get down to real work on the ground, explaining their policies and building structures. So far they are riding on the back of Tsvangirai even as they demonize him and the people of Zimbabwe are NOT stupid….

Bobsled, I like your kind of analysis. We want policies that are sound not throwing hate speeches. It will not work. I have been discussing this issue with people from one of the remote rural areas, to say a few, they are aware of the real story behind the scenes and all that I have talked to are on Tsvangirai’s side. Lets wait and see the person with charisma when it comes to the politics of Zimbabwe.

bobsled- your thoughts are mine too and many other Zimbabweans. Biti and his renewal team must stop whatever squabbles and begin putting policies in place. Zimbos need change not outright parroting. What they are doing (saying MDC-T lost 2013 elections because of lack of strategies) is already exposing them as lacking strategies because if they were part of the losing party last year which had poor policies and poor planning, what guarantee do we have that today they can come up with better ones. All the renewal team’s intentions are to govern the party for their personal gains and never to give the ordinary man on the street freedom. They are just greedy and want to line up their pockets with our (supporters and donors) hard earned money. Sorry guys (Renewal Team) Zimbos are no fools. We are not worried about your courts, constitutions etc that you bombard us with during the press conferences. We need direction, strategies, policies as well as guarantees that you are better than Tsvangirai and team. Give us your MANIFESTO because the one for MDC-T is the one you claim to lack strategies and caused loss during 2013 elections. Friends and foes, this talk from Biti’s camp is aimed at gaining sympathy from the ZANU PF judiciary which they intend to use to gain legitimacy of the MDC-T party.

Its a case of INSANITY VS GENIOUS here ladies and gentleman : as you can see we have a bunch of failures who are blaming the leadership to which they were part and parcel . How naive on Sipepa and Biti to castigate the leadership of Tsvangirai when they were within the executive that failed to beat Zanu PF in the past elections . This is tantamount to sheer madness as this whole thing is exposing their immaturity . There are differences in Zanu PF but they calculate their moves by not letting the so called small boys humiliating the big wigs . Biti naSipepa kuraiwo vakomana ! Stop behaving like callow youths in this political game . Can’t u play elsewhere pse ???

  16. Mahlaeya May 19, 2014 at 12:10 pm #

You cannot blame Tsvangirai alone on losing the elections. You worked as a team, and lost as a team. To tell Zimbabweans now that you were ill prepared for the elections, while you knew all along is being irresponsible.
