The trip is part of his diplomatic offensive that he embarked on several weeks ago to ratchet support for his party while conscientising the region and the world on the political and economic failures of Zanu PF.

The former premier vowed during the Workers’ Day celebrations in Harare on Friday to escalate the publicity of the crisis in Zimbabwe. Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka confirmed the MDC-T leader will leave tomorrow for Germany but could not give details on the trip.

“It’s part of the diplomatic offensive and its purpose is purely diplomatic engagement. Germany is the country’s good friend and has always been willing to engage and the good news is that their position on Zimbabwe has been consistent, especially over the implementation of our own constitution,” Tamborinyoka said without elaborating.

“He will be meeting with officials at a very high level.”

Soon after his appointment as Prime Minister in 2009 after the formation of the inclusive government, Tsvangirai met Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel but it was not clear whether that would happen this time.

He has been on a diplomatic offensive in a bid to seek assistance and mobilise resources towards campaigns to remove Zanu PF’s Robert Mugabe from power.

Tsvangirai has been to the United Kingdom, the US and several African countries.
