Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa and his assistants met in Harare yesterday to finalise on the team that will do duty for the country in the first leg of the Afcon qualifiers against Malawi this weekend as well as the African Nations Championship (Chan).

Zimbabwe begin their bid to qualify for the 2017 Afcon to be hosted by Gabon with a trip to Malawi on June 13, before engaging the Comoros Islands on June 20 for the first leg of the Chan qualifiers with the second leg slated for July 3-5.
However, Pasuwa and his technical bench decided not to announce their squad yesterday, opting to do it today for reasons best known to them.
All seems to be well with Pasuwa who will have less than a week to prepare for the opening Afcon match, while their opponents in both the Afcon qualifier and the Chan qualifiers have been in camp for days now.
When contacted to disclose his squad yesterday after the meeting, Pasuwa switched off his mobile phone.
However, Pasuwa’s assistant Saul Chaminuka had this to say about the squad; “We have finished selecting the team but it’s good to get the names from the coach himself.”

Zifa technical director Takaendesa Jongwe said the coach would release the names today.
“The coach has made it clear that he will release the team tomorrow [today],” Jongwe said.
Meanwhile, Zifa Coucillors continue to show their determination to rid the country’s football of Cuthbert Dube after they called for yet another extra ordinary meeting in Harare on June 20, ahead of the football mother body’s annual general meeting set for June 27.
According to a letter dated June 6 2015 sent to all football regions and provinces by the councillors, the meeting will among other issues revoke the mandate of one or a number of members of a body of Zifa.
Interestingly, the indaba slated for June 20 at Ambassador Hotel comes barely a week before the Zifa AGM.
The meeting comes after the councillors’ attempt to fire Dube, a man they voted into office for a second term a year ago. However, the decision was overturned by Fifa last month.
Among other things on the agenda will be the discusion on the Zifa president’s activity report, the participation and funding of the national teams as well as presentation of an aged analysis of all Zifa creditors.
