Court okays Dzamara rally

THE High Court of Zimbabwe last night granted an order allowing the Itai Dzamara rally scheduled for Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare, this afternoon.

Human Rights lawyer Trust Maamba said High Court judge Justice Joseph Musakwa yesterday granted the order saying the country needed to uphold people’s rights as enshrined in the Constitution.

“The application was made by Partson Dzamara saying that they wanted to meet as a family, but they wanted to invite many people including churches and civil society and the judge granted the order,” said Maamba.

“Whether they go on to hold the meeting or not is another issue, but the order has been granted.”

The meeting had initially been stopped by the Zimbabwe Republic Police that refused to grant clearance, prompting the family to make an urgent chamber application.

A journalist and political activist, Dzamara was allegedly abducted three months ago in Harare’s Glen View suburb and has not been seen since then.
