Moyo’s daughter found dead

Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo’s daughter was found dead in her room at the University of Cape Town, South Africa yesterday.

By Luyanduhlobo Makwati

Zanele (20) was studying international Relations and Moyo described her as his “angel daughter” as he announced the death on Twitter.

Moyo was informed of the tragic news by his aides while in the middle of a presentation at the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo.

Permanent secretary in the ministry of Higher Education, Machinyenyika Mapuranga informed participants who had gathered for the presentation about the death.

The cause had not yet been established by the time of going to print.

Moyo was on an on-going consultative process with tertiary learning institutions and had been scheduled to visit Lupane State University in Gwanda and Westgate industrial training centre, among others in the next few days.

What does this death have to do with politics? What proof do you have that this sad development is a result of politics-influenced foul play? To the minister, our deepest condolences.

The insinuations that her death is a result of a politics-influenced act is puzzling. People should desist from rushing to make conclusions without proof. I am neither a fan nor a hater of the proffessor. My feelings about him are best described as indefferent. I therefore regard him with no bias. As any human and parent, his loss is a sad development. Instead of rushing to make conclusions, it is useful to wait for factual details which may be availed as time passes. Perhaps she died innocently of some medical condition. Perhaps it’s a result of improperly administered medication. Perhaps it’s suicide. The point is, there is no need to speculate and make insinuations. The best always is to wait for facts.

Am really sorry for the terrible death. Regardless of how we perceive others in this life, the idea of celebrating the calamity of others is inhuman especially the calamity of death. God determines our time on this earth. “Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;” Job 14:5.

To my dear Minister, Prof Moyo, my deepest condolences in one of your darkest moments of life. God is in control.
