This was disclosed by Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Prisca Mupfumira at a Zanu PF Makonde inter-district meeting at Chinhoyi training centre yesterday.

Sources who attended the meeting said Mupfumira broke the news before the meeting.

“Let me inform the house that Gushungo vave nemuzukuru, kwakazvarwa mwana mukomana [a baby boy was born],” Mupfumira is said to have disclosed.

Social media networks were yesterday awash with stories about the birth of Mugabe’s first grandson.

First Lady Grace Mugabe has been in Singapore for the past few weeks, where she was waiting for Bona to deliver her first baby with husband, Simba Chikore. Bona and Chikore wedded in 2014.

Mugabe is said to have always wished to see and play with his first grandchild.

But the decision to fly more than 8 000km for Bona to give birth has been described by critics as a sign of hypocrisy and lack of faith in the country’s healthcare facilities.

Mugabe and Grace’s three children Bona, Robert Junior and Chatunga were all born in Zimbabwe but the country’s health delivery system has since deteriorated under Mugabe’s continued rule, resulting in a high mortality rate in the country.

Mugabe’s spokesperson, George Charamba could not be reached for comment yesterday.
